A SPECIAL "THANK YOU" TO MARGARET SORENSEN
August 18, 1916 - October 6, 2002

The Achievers of America would like to offer our sincerest gratitude to Margaret Sorensen, for her generosity in having the interest and insight to help pay the fee to start The Achievers program back in 1998. The Achievers of America was founded by Steve Biondo with the help of Frank DeMayer and his wife Lillian in 1998. The program originated out of Flushing New York and in 2001 has expanded to Hudson, Florida. Hundreds of individuals with special needs that have benefited throughout the years. The Achievers program has provided an opportunity to those who participate in a sport they could of only dreamed of, much less play. To them its a dream come true. We thank Margaret for her support of The Achievers of America.

Margaret was born in England on August 18, 1916, but later relocated Jackson Heights, New York, the same neighborhood as The Achievers founder, Steve Biondo, where she was a friend of Steve's mother, Annette, who lived just a few blocks away. She had known Steve since he was in a carriage. Steve's relationship with Margaret grew throughout the years, and on one occasion, when Margaret's husband Rudy had a heart attack, while Steve and his son Raymond were visiting, Steve preformed CPR on Rudy, while his son Raymond called 911, and help calm down Margaret until the Fire Department and emergency ambulance arrived. Margaret and Rudy were grateful Steve and his son were there. To Steve, it was a rewarding feeling to have helped save a life, and to have Margaret and Rudy live on together.

Later, when Margaret's husband passed away, she moved to a home in Port Richey, Florida. After being there for some time, Margaret decided she would like to go to an assisted living facility, because of her health. Margaret enjoyed her last few years there, while still being able to go to her own home from time to time and visit her dog Benji, who still lives with Steve. This made Margaret happy knowing she still had her own home.

Upon her passing on October 6, 2002, a foundation was set up for Margaret Sorensen called "The Sorensen Foundation," and in 2010, a generous donation of $25,000 was donated to The Achievers of America organization on her behalf. We are grateful for this wonderful donation and can't thank Margaret enough for her kind consideration and support for The Achievers of America.

The Achievers, their parents, their caregivers, and the volunteers and staff at The Achievers of America, all want to say: "Thank you, Margaret, for your very kind and generous donation. It will help us continue to offer our program to individuals with developmental disabilities, boys, girls, men, and women of all ages, challenged or not. You have been a true Achiever, and we are proud to have been blessed by your care and support."
